Blog Phenomenon

Individuals no longer express their feelings through diaries. Most individuals think that writing in diaries are outdated. With the technology available nowadays, individuals prefer to share their feelings online. This sharing can be done by blogging.

Blogging is defined as an action in adding an entry or a post to a blog. An individual can choose to blog at any time they preferred and there are no limitations of posts in a single day. It is entirely up to the individual whether to update their blogs or not. (Infolific, 2011)

The term blog was originated from the word "web log". Individuals who blog are called Bloggers. These days, there are hundreds or even thousands of blogs in the internet. Some individual might blog about their lives, some about their pets and more. According to John C. Dvorak, most of the blogs are uninteresting and some are uninspired. (Pcmag.com, 2002)

There are a few reasons that inspired an individual to write blogs. The few reasons are:

Ego Gratification
This means that an individual is in need of attention. He or she blogs in order to make themselves feel better.

Antidepersonalization
These kind of individuals do not like to be the same as the others. They will blog in order to make other people think that they are different.

Elimination of Frustration
People nowadays are living in a city full of frustrations, and by blogging, it gives them the ability to complain about their unsatisfactories.

Societal need to share
These are the people who likes to share about everything in their lives.

Wanna-be Writers
Some people dream of becoming writers. By blogging, there are no obstacles. They can write whatever they want. Some writings are good and most of them are miserable.

Whatever are the reason an individual start blogging, it is not going to go away soon. More and more blogs will appear each day.

  1. Postings would be better if there are:
    1. new media concepts cited to explain the trends/ issues at hand.
    2. specific examples to new media trends/ use cited from readings
    3. proper intext citations to ideas borrowed
    4. further content development for some postings
